Team Profile

In 2019/20 the Light Blues were led by Ed Tyler with Ed Sides as his vice-captain. An unfortunate slow start meant the Blues narrowly missed out on promotion in East Prem A while their BUCS season is best described as ‘solid’ with a mid-table finish in Premier South. The highlight of the season was undoubtedly the 5-0 triumph over Oxf*rd at the 120th Varsity Hockey Match.

In 2020/21, the Blues will be looking to challenge for promotion to national league hockey and retain the Varsity trophy for the third year in a row.

“With a strong presence of returning Blues, and an experienced coach in Charlie Bannister, our side will no doubt have the ability to challenge for every competition we enter with the side targeting promotion to the National League as well as retaining the varsity trophy”. – Ed Tyler

CUHC entered a men’s team into the BUCS competition for the first time in 2011/12, winning Midlands 4C as well as the Midlands Cup. Due to the academic commitments of players on Wednesday afternoons, BUCS has always been a challenge for CUHC. However, the Blues now find themselves in the premier south league and will be hoping to continue their rise through the newly organised BUCS structure.
