Captain’s Welcome

Julian Wreford

Hi, welcome to CUHC and the (unquestionably) best team in CUHC – the Wanderers. My name is Julian Wreford and I’ll be captaining the Wanderers for the 20/21 season. This season we will be competing in East Leagues Premier B and BUCS Midlands Tier 1, after having had a strong season and finishing “unreservedly mid-table” last year in both leagues.

In addition to this we Wilby found winning on the Best Day Of The Year (BDotY) as we show O****d who’s best once again, after a stellar performance last season saw a huge 5-2 win (on their big day out) despite a blinding own goal scored by yours truly.

With uncertainty regarding next season, we will be targeting finishing in a Champions League spot for both leagues, but we will continue to train hard whatever the circumstances under the watchful eye of Sean (ex Blues Captain and Blues Varsity 2020 MOTM) and Alex (last seen carrying Holcombe at Jaffa Super 6s).

About Me

I am going into my Third Year doing computer science at Fitzwilliam College. Since coming for pre-season in my first year the Wanderers have been where my heart lies, and I’m looking forward to another great season next year.

A bit about the team

The men’s 2nd XI and their nickname (the wanderers) have a long-standing history at CUHC. They’ve been a team as long as anyone can remember (we have photos of the 1983/1984 Wanderers).

The Wanderers 2019/20

With many of their alumni now playing national league hockey (ironically more in recent years than the blues!), the wanderer’s take their hockey seriously.

The Wanderers have played in East Leagues Prem B for the majority of the last decade and always eye up a finish near the top of the table.

When the Blues decided to leave BUCS in 2014, to focus on National League hockey, the Wanderers were also forced to leave. Starting again in 2015/16, the Wanderer’s have worked their way back up to their highest possible league (in 2019/20).
